Floors come in three basic varieties: soft (i.e. carpet), hard (tile, lino, flags, marble) and wooden (self-explanatory). And you can clean all types of floors using natural floor cleaning methods.
As an everyday measure, the natural cleaning products you will be using for your floors will be the broom and the vacuum cleaner. Or just the vacuum cleaner - these can usually handle soft, hard and wooden surfaces with equal panache. Some can even handle wet stuff. (Never, ever vacuum up vomit or cat's pee. You will never get rid of the stink inside the vacuum cleaner.) And they are a natural cleaning product - all they use is air. But this "natural floor cleaner" can have the low-toxin effect ruin if you use one of those ghastly room scents that work by shaking smelly stuff on the floor and then vacuuming it up. These shake-on thingies are one of the worst sources of toxins in the home. If you want a nice smell dispersed through your home, all you need is a few drops of essential oil on the filter or on the vacuum cleaner bag. And to keep things natural with your vacuum cleaner from start to finish, remember to empty your vacuum cleaner into the compost heap instead of the rubbish bin. However, sometimes floors need a bit more cleaning. Somebody spills a glass of wine. Someone runs through from the garden to pick up the phone without removing their muddy shoes. A child (or an adult) throws up. The new puppy pees behind the sofa. Now what do you do? What you will do is to act straight away, because the longer the stain sits, the worse things will get. With all three situations, the hard floor will be better off, as it is more stain resistant. Things can get a bit trickier with the more absorbent wooden and soft floors. For all of the messes described above on a hard floor, remove the worst with the help of a ratty towel (we should all keep ratty towels for this sort of situation rather than throwing them out and having to use a good towel http://www.searsclean.com/ for a grubby job). Then get out some warm water, some soap gel and a mop (or else a scrubbing brush). Alternatively, use an Enjo mop. And remove the rest of the ick. For cleaning a wooden floor, the aforementioned ratty towel should be thrown over the pee, the vomit or the wine to absorb the worst. The mud can simply be sponged off with a damp cloth without much trouble. The real problem with the pee, vomit and wine is that they can damage the finish of the wood floor. Do not panic. This means that you can get after the mess with vinegar, which, in ordinary circumstances, can strip off the wax from wooden floors. Dilute the vinegar with a bit of warm water and sponge it all over the spill. Leave it to sit for a bit, then douse the spot with more water and sponge up the excess. You will need to rewax the spot on the floor, but it is possible to make your own natural floor wax by mixing two parts of beeswax with one part of linseed oil (and, if you must, four parts of turpentine) in a double boiler until well combined. Some lemon or cedar essential oil won't hurt here, either. Apply the wax with one old sock and buff with another sock. For carpets, the best thing to do to get rid of http://sunrisechemdry.com the pee, the vomit or the wine is first to blot up as much as you can as fast as you can, and then to douse it liberally with large amounts of water. This floats up a lot of the stains. In many cases, this will do the trick, but to stop smells (vital in the case of puppy pee), sprinkle on some baking soda and leave to dry before vacuuming up. If the stain won't come up with this, you'll have to use the method you use for getting up the mud. Get a bit of warm water and some soap, plus a soft scrubbing brush. Scrub the spot up to a foam and blot the foam off with that handy towel. The spot will look a little ruffled for a few days, but after a week or two, it will get trodden smooth again and you won't be able to find the place unless you really search for it. Clean fanatics, nonetheless, placed the pursuit for tidiness over other, extra trivial ways of hanging out. For them, a spotless house is the zenith of success. Check out on for some tidy fanatic wisdom.
1. Clean freaks are in shape. Tidy freaks are not thinking about workout DVDs. Definitely vacuuming the living-room as well as dusting the drape rods work as a decent workout with lots of stretches? As for jumping up to do some fat-burning lunges while the TELEVISION commercials are on, isn't really that the time when any type of self-respecting tidy compulsive dusts under the sofa? 2. Some works can't wait up until early morning-- really, all works. Going to sleep without having done the dishes or run the dishwashing machine will certainly lead to a very troubled evening's sleep. No clean fanatic can relax recognizing all that mess is hiding in the cooking area. Disturbing! 3. Cleaning up products are engaging. Whether you love to attempt the most recent deep-cleaning, germ-busting spray or are a supporter of delicious-sounding eco-friendly cleansing items, you are absolutely not unsusceptible to the siren telephone call of a high quality cleaning product. All those sprays, powders as well as liquids attract you with their guarantee of a shinier item, a much more hygienic surface as well as a house that smells insanely fresh. You might even organize your cleaning items on a rack, long as a non-clean fanatic might prepare accessories or publications. 4. Open shelves are dangerous! All those containers, containers and plates rest available to the elements, getting messy or, even worse, oily! If you, as a clean freak, do consent to have open shelves in your house, a detailed cleaning down of everything aligned on them should be set up regularly. You can't be also cautious. 5. Working with a house cleanser is not a choice. Some individuals treat themselves to a house cleaner during hectic or stressful times. Others employ one year-round to make life less complicated. Clean freaks locate this idea weird. Exactly what's easier concerning having to go around each space to look for missed areas once the cleaner has left? 6. Cleansing trumps refreshment. When life offers you lemons, make lemonade. That's the claiming, but tidy fanatics differ. They say, when life gives you lemons, cut one in half and also use it to disinfect your cutting board. Alternatively, mix lemon juice with white vinegar to earn a natural, green cleaner. 7. Spring is the very best time of year. Each winter season, tidy fanatics count the days till spring will start. Not because they hate the dark, cold months, but since springtime suggests that they can dry-clean the curtains and pressure-wash the patio once again. Whoopee! 8. There's cleansing, and afterwards there's deep cleansing. Non-clean freaks are typically content to just clean down right stuff you could see in your residence, such as the cooking area counters or the floor. Yet true tidy freaks go deeper. Much much deeper. To them, unclogging a drainpipe, washing the fridge freezer and vacuuming the chimney are crucial as well as extremely fulfilling jobs. 9. Home made devices are often best. A tidy freak will certainly have all the mops as well as towels that a routine homeowner has, yet is also skilled at improvisating. Cotton rounds don't simply belong in the restroom! They are fantastic for cleaning up a computer key-board or around a kitchen drain. Sticky notes will happily grab crumbs or hairs, as well as the chem dry phoenix sharp end of a safety and security pin could be utilized for scuffing out cruds from tiny holes. 10. Number one rated Chem-Dry located in Phoenix and Scottsdale Arizona. Clean freaks love a party. Currently you might think that clean freaks would certainly despise to hold an event in their home. All those splashed drinks as well as chips squashed right into the carpeting. Yuck! Yet as a matter of fact, clean freaks love an event. Well, they like a party that's just finished so they can snap on their rubber handwear covers, take out their mop and also truly reach work putting the home back in order. Some individuals view TV to relax down after an event. Tidy fanatics clean! Transcript for 14 People Rescued From Flash Floods in Arizona

Elton John Contracts Grave Bacterial Infection, Should Make Full Recovery
Photo Credit: Getty Images Oh hell no, Elton, not you too. Last week the Rocket Man contracted a "rare and potentially deadly" bacterial infection while on tour in South America. But thankfully, he is on the mend and should make a full recovery. Advertisement According to People, the singer and pianist became gravely ill on a flight traveling from Santiago, Chile to the United Kingdom. Upon arrival, he was immediately admitted to the hospital for treatment. After a long stay, including two nights in the intensive care unit, he was discharged on Saturday, April 22. Now out http://www.chem-dry.net/sunrise.az/ of danger, John can finish his recovery at home. One of John's representatives released a statement to People detailing the emergency: Advertisement "After spending two nights in intensive care followed by an extended stay in hospital, Elton was released from hospital on Saturday, April 22, and is now resting comfortably at home per doctor's advice. Infections of this nature are rare and potentially deadly. Thankfully, Elton's medical team identified this quickly and treated it successfully. He is expected to make a full and complete recovery." As a consequence of this unforeseen illness, John must cancel the April-May leg of his Las Vegas residency. He will also be unable to perform on May 6 in Bakersville, California. On June 3, he will recommence touring with a show in Twickenham, England. John delivered his own written address to fans, as well as to those who treated him at the hospital: Sponsored "I am so fortunate to have the most incredible and loyal fans and apologise for disappointing them...I am extremely grateful to the medical team for their excellence in looking after me so well." We're all grateful too! But while it seems the crisis is no more, it never hurts to summon some positive energy. Let's start an Elton playlist in the comments, shall we? I'll start. Americans spent more than $7 billion on dry cleaning last year, but cleaning your clothes may affect more than your wallet.
As Early Show national correspondent Tracy Smith points out, there's nothing dry about dry cleaning at all. Clothes are actually washed, in a solvent, one the federal Environmental Protection Agency calls it a possible-to-probable carcinogen, and you could be breathing it in, without even knowing it. That was what happened with Mori Mickelson and her husband, Danny O'Brien. The more they stayed inside their New York City apartment, the sicker they got. "I would get dizzy, I would get headaches, just feel nauseous," Mickelson told Smith. "I couldn't focus. Basically, my mind was floating away on me," O'Brien says. It turned out, Smith reports, that the air in their apartment was contaminated with a toxic solvent leaking from the dry cleaner downstairs. It's called perchloroethylene, or PERC, and it's used by three out of four dry cleaners nationwide. Judith Schreiber, Ph.D., the chief scientist of environmental protection for the New York Attorney General's Office, says she "would classify PERC as a neurotoxin." Schreiber says dry cleaners love PERC because it washes delicate fabrics without shrinking them or causing fading. But, too often, PERC vapors can leak into nearby residences and offices, and Schreiber says long-term exposure can cause serious harm. "You're at risk for neurological effects, liver and kidney illness, and increased cancer risk," she says. The World Health Organization says PERC is a "probable human carcinogen." The EPA classifies it as somewhere between a "possible" and "probable" human carcinogen, though at high dosages and over a long period of time. The agency doesn't say brief exposure to PERC, or long-term exposure to very low levels of the chemical will cause cancer. But the EPA admits studies of the carcinogenic effects of PERC in the general population don't exist. The EPA is currently doing a "risk assessment" of PERC, evaluating all research into its potential health effects, and plans to release its findings in about two years. According to the EPA's Web site, "Breathing PERC for short periods of time can adversely affect the human nervous system. Effects range from dizziness, fatigue, headaches, and sweating, to incoordination and unconsciousness. Contact with PERC vapor irritates the skin, eyes, nose, and throat. These effects are not likely to occur at levels of PERC that are normally found in the environment. Breathing PERC over longer periods of time can cause liver and kidney damage in humans. Workers repeatedly exposed to large amounts of PERC in air can also experience memory loss and confusion. Laboratory studies show that PERC causes kidney and liver damage and cancer in animals exposed repeatedly by inhalation and by mouth. Repeat exposure to large amounts of PERC in air may likewise cause cancer in humans." You may have gotten a whiff of PERC's strong, fresh scent at your cleaners but, once PERC evaporates into the air, you can't always smell it. Mickelson had no idea her home was so contaminated until, one day, she literally collapsed from the fumes, and was rushed to the hospital. "The city Department of Health did tests on us and our neighbors, and it was in our breath and our urine and in my breast milk and my neighbor's breast milk; it was basically everywhere," she says. Even wearing dry cleaned clothes may put you at risk, Smith observes. In the first study of its kind, Consumer Reports magazine measured PERC emissions from freshly dry-cleaned blazers and the results, Smith says, were "startling." The magazine's Jean Halloran says, "We found that there was a small, but definitely increased risk of cancer from wearing freshly dry-cleaned clothes once or twice a week." The industry calls that junk science. "When handled properly, PERC is "extremely safe," says Nora Nealis, who runs the National Cleaners Association." She says studies of workers at dry cleaners have found no increased risk of cancer, even after years of PERC exposure. "I have friends and neighbors and family members who are in the dry cleaning industry," Nealis adds, "and I have no compunction whatsoever about their health or safety." But some regulators aren't buying that. Last month, California became the first state in the nation to ban PERC, calling it a public health threat. They ordered it phased out at dry cleaners over the next 15 years. Officials there want them to use environmentally-safer methods such as "wet cleaning," which washes dry clean-only garments using special soap, and plain old water. "Wet cleaning is great for casual wear, your khakis, your sweaters, your cotton man-tailored shirts," Nealis notes. But it's not so good for structured garments. Nealis showed Smith a designer jacket that wet cleaning caused to shrink, and left without what Nealis calls "that nice, finished, like-new look that you went to the cleaners for." Some dry cleaners call their methods "organic." But that may not be safer than using perc because, the dry cleaners Chem-Dry Scottsdale trade group says, there's very little regulation of what "organic" means in their business. All it means for sure is that the cleaning methods include the use of carbon, which could apply to virtually all methods of cleaning. Another option? Stop buying clothes that require dry cleaning. That's what Mickelson did. She told Smith she now owns only one item, pair of pants, that is dry clean-only. Though the dry cleaner beneath Mickelson's apartment no longer uses a PERC machine, she still worries about her family's exposure, telling Smith she worries "all the time" about its long-term effects, adding, "When one of us gets sick, I think, could this be something related to PERC? My greatest fear is that one of us is going to get cancer from it." Experts say, if you live or work in a building that has a PERC dry cleaner, you may want to have your local health department check the level of PERC in the air. And if your clothes come back from the cleaners smelling like chemicals, it could be a sign they have too much PERC on them, and you should take them back and have them redone. Experts say unwrapping your dry cleaned clothes when you get home and airing them out could help, but if you take the plastic bag off inside your house, the PERC just goes into the air, where it can last up to a week. It's better to air dry cleaning out in an open garage or outside. Mickelson says she airs out her dry cleaned pants by taking them for a walk around the block before bringing them home!
